Social Club #17 - Day to Night Styling {event}

It was that time again, to get social, meet new faces, drink lovely wine, eat great food and the most fun part: learning a new skill.  #socialclubza time!  Wednesday was a cold and wet evening, but the laundromat was warm and cozy inside and was buzzing with energy from the lively ladies chattering on.

Everyone grabbed a seat, a glass of wine and settled in.  Juan took us through the Beau Belle range of wines and Jenny told us more about Doran wines.  Beau Belle is a French inspired wine and you can only do wine tasting by appointment, as the lovely French chateau is actually the wine owners house.  The wines were really magnificent and Juan also added that their wines sulfate content is half of what other wines contain.  Which in laymen's terms means, gives you less of a hangover.  That fact totally makes me want to buy all their wines.

Fiona from Inspired Living SA and I wanted to present a beauty and style themed Social Club and thought that we should focus on transforming your look from day to night.  A person can get so busy with daily life and there is so much cool stuff going on all the time, especially in Cape Town. You try to attend as many events as possible and a lot of them starts straight after work.  That doesn't leave you with enough time to have a shower, change your clothes, style you hair, apply your make up and putting on accessories.  So we asked professionals in the field to teach us a few tips.  Personal stylist, Dominique Luck started off with showing us how Jo (the model) would look as she would coming straight from work.

Kirsten Murphy, makeup and hair stylist started working her magic on Jo.  Jo wasn't wearing any makeup and Kirsty took us through the whole process of applying your foundation and creating a natural look.  With this look you are supposed to look like you are not wearing any makeup, with your best features accentuated.

Kirsty then showed us how to create a French plait, which would be a great hairstyle to wear to work.  It always look so easy when someone is demonstrating it, but I hardly get it right when I try it on my own hair!

Some ladies practiced the plaiting on each others hair and look at the beautiful fish plait that Tarryn did on Bonny's hair.

Our lovely wine guy, Juan, were very attentive to our wine glasses and it seemed like the glasses were bottomless.  Apparently we drank every last drop of wine that he brought with.  Oopsie, what can I say, we are very thirsty ladies!

We were spoiled with amazing goodie bags filled with surprises from Tresemme, Catrice, Associated magazines and Sorbet.  There were also Jean Kelly pumps on sale at a discounted price.  Kelly gave me a pair to wear and I must say that they are the most comfortable pumps that I have ever worn.  They are genuine leather too.

Everybody received a social media flyer with all the sponsors details on and were encouraged to tweet through the night.  The winner received a free pair of Jean Kelly pumps.

I love my laundry serves amazing dim sum and we were lucky enough to be spoiled with a variety of options.  There were a few dim sum virgins who tried it for the first time and fell in love with the tasty little treats.

Dominique showed us how you could change up your clothes from the work look to the evening look.  She suggested that you swap the jacket for a smart blaser, swap flat shoes for a pair of heels, change from your big handbag to a sling bag and put on big stud earrings.  She recommend that you have a palette of nude shoes and clothes, as it is easy to build on that with bright colours or neutrals.

Kirsty demonstrated how to change your natural makeup to evening makeup.  She showed us how to do a light brown smokey eye paired with a bright lip colour.  She took the plaits out of Jo's hair and made a sleek pony, applying hairspray on the sides.  This hairstyle shows off the beautiful earrings and brings more focus to your face.

So when Jo was all done and ready to go to the trendy bar for her drinks after work, we challenged the ladies to duplicate Jo's makeup and the best copy would win a prize.  It was a makeup-off and everyone whipped out their makeup bags and started the challenge.  It was a very hard decision to choose the winner, but in the end Kirsty selected Charlene's mom.  Her daughter did a purple smokey eye on her and Kirsty was very impressed with the look.  She won a hamper from Sorbet.  This was one lucky lady, as the next hamper from Inspired Living SA went to the same lady.  We had our own Opera Winfrey moment, as everyone had to look under their chairs and the person who would find Fiona's business card under their chair, won the hamper.

We asked everyone to bring a clothing item with them which they were clueless about how to wear.  Dominique took each item and gave us advise on how you should wear it.

It was such a great fun filled night jam packed with cool activities and so good to catch up with old friends and meet new faces.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the night and we can't wait for the next one.  Thanks to Ray from Mirra Photography for the amazing pictures as always.
